The
Worldwide Communication Solution
Aerodata's
Communication System AeroPhone provides worldwide communication
capabilities using the Iridium satellite network and GSM (Optional).
It meets today's requirements for airborne voice communication
and data transfer at low entry and operating cost.
Key
Features
Low system and operation cost
Easy and flexible operation
Capability for voice and data communication
Interface to primary aircraft intercom
Designed to airworthiness standards
Functional
Description
AeroPhone
utilizes the Iridium Satellite Network of 66 low earth-orbit
satellites, which ensures worldwide availability of the service.
AeroPhone
is a certified single-box, one-channel system providing voice
and data communication. With a weight of approximately 5 pounds
the system adds negligible weight to helicopters or fixed-wing
aircraft.
AeroPhone
is installed with minimum efforts. It connects directly to the
primary intercom system and incoming call annunciations. A cockpit
dial panel enables the flight crew to control the system and
place calls or can be installed in the cabin of the aircraft
for passenger control. The small Iridium antenna allows easy
installation on all types of aircraft or helicopters.
AeroPhone
supports the installation of a standard aircraft handset for
cabin access to the Iridium Network. It also provides data transfer
and access to the World-Wide-Web, however at a limited baud
rate.
System
Description
The
standard AeroPhone includes on satellite transceiver unit, one
cockpit dial panel and one low profile Iridium antenna.
Satellite
Transceiver Unit

The Satellite Transceiver Unit (STU) combines the processing
unit and the integrated RF. It inherits the following features:
two dialing capabilities: cockpit dial panel or cabin handset
audio interface to intercom system
interface for aural and visual incoming call indication
RS-232 for data services such as web access and file
transfer
phone book capacity for up to 100 entries
interface for cockpit printer (future option)
Cockpit
Dial Panel
The
Cockpit Dial Panel (CDP) is designed to control the AeroPhone
from the cockpit via a keypad and a 2 x 16 character LC-Display.
The CDP provides the following features:
access to phone book and incoming messages
green backlight and status indication
DZUS mounted NVG capability
Iridium
Antenna
A
low profile active antenna guarantees continuous signal coverage
for excellent operation. The antenna provides enhanced protection
against rain, ice and lightning strikes. The type of antenna
allows easy installation.
